Ultrasound Therapy for Pets

A veterinary ultrasound machine is a useful tool in diagnostics, as it creates images of what’s going on inside a pet’s body. But did you know ultrasound waves can be used to warm the tissues for healing internal injuries?

Ultrasound therapy does not produce images like a diagnostic ultrasound, but the high frequency sound waves can target a specific area with heat and microscopic vibration at just the right depth. There are many benefits including:

• Pain relief
  The movement of the ultrasound and the heat massages the affected area, removing toxins and reducing pain.
   
• Reduced swelling
  Increasing motion is important to prevent the formation of scar tissue and further tendon injuries. But the more swelling present means there is less motion. The therapeutic ultrasound helps remove that swelling and increases motion.
   
• Increased blood flow
  An increased blood flow brings all the important components of blood to the injured area, helping to speed healing, break up scar tissue, and create better movement.

The veterinary therapeutic ultrasound can be beneficial for treating conditions such as:

• Ligament and tendon injuries
• Preventing post-op scars
• Swelling
• Build-up of scar tissue
• Muscle injuries
• Wounds that are slow to heal
